Sister Spokes

A second chance to ride forward.
A bike library for women rebuilding life after custody.
Not just transport
A bike means independence. The freedom to get to an interview, pick up the kids, or just get out of the house. Sister Spokes makes that possible for women leaving custody in Glasgow.
Getting the bike is the easy part. Knowing where to ride it, having someone to ride with, and feeling entitled to take up space on the road are the harder parts. That is what this is for.
What you get
A free bike loan
No cost, no fuss, just a bike when you need one — with a helmet, lock and lights.
Somebody alongside you
No cycling experience needed. We will teach you, at your pace, without an audience.
Keeping it going
Maintenance support from our workshop, and the skills to do the basics yourself.

This is for you if you are
Rebuilding life after custody. On a community sentence. Looking to build confidence or fitness. Or simply needing a way to get about that does not depend on a bus fare.
You do not need a support worker to refer you — you can come to us yourself. Every enquiry is handled confidentially, and we will not ask you for more of your story than you want to tell.
Ride with company
Nobody is expected to do this on their own. Rides go out with qualified leaders and volunteers who know what it is to start again, and we go at the pace of the group.
Some people come for the bike. Most stay for the company.
