Freedom Bike Library

Ride forward. Rebuild freedom. Free bike loans from our hub on the Forth & Clyde Canal.

Who the bike loan is for

The bike loan is not a public hire scheme. It was funded and built for two groups, and they come first:

  • People with justice experience, including people leaving custody
  • Women rebuilding after custody, through Sister Spokes

If that is you, or you are a worker supporting someone it describes, get in touch and we will talk it through.

Borrow a bike, not buy one

A library, not a shop. You join for free, you borrow a bike, and you bring it back when you are done, or talk to us about keeping it going.

It exists because the barrier to cycling is almost never wanting to. It is almost always money, access, or a bike that nobody can fix. Leaving custody, transport is often the difference between making the appointment, holding the job, keeping the tenancy, and losing all three. We take that barrier away and see what happens.

The led rides

Our led rides are not running at the moment, so there is no schedule to turn up to.

When they start again, the days and times will go on the rides page first.

Honest about capacity

We are a small organisation run on limited funding and a lot of volunteer time. We cannot always say when a bike will be free, and we can only take requests within Glasgow. If there is a wait, we will tell you there is a wait rather than leave you wondering.
